Re: British Beef Situation

There is a fatal flaw in the argument that "all the people in the
world could be fed if only the nasty US would turn over all its
concrete to agriculture". Actually, virtually all starvation in this
world today is caused by civil wars; African fighting African and
burning crops and land, Eastern Europeans forced to forgo their
livlihoods and live life as refugees, unable to plant or buy what they
always could before the war. Take a look at the recent years in
Somalia. Civil war with rampant crop burning caused mass starvation.
When refugees were again allowed to live in peace, they had no money
to buy seed and everything else it takes to live before the crops come
in. So starvation reigned supreme a while longer while relief efforts
continued. It isn't the fault of the US that people across the globe
choose to starve their fellow countrymen in such a shameful way.
Relief workers get shot at, blackmailed and generally harassed even
when they try to render relief. Talk to anyone who has worked relief
in civil war situation and hear the horror stories. It'll open your
eyes to the cruelty of people. And it sure as hell isn't because we
have lots of concrete in the US.
