New Major Report on Sustainability

I too was unable to find the Hudson Institute's new briefing paper, "Farming
to Sustain the Environment," (Hudson Briefing Paper #190), listed on their
web page.

As I am sure that most SANetters are well aware, different people tend to
have different perspectives on what constitutes sustainability (or
appropriate paths toward sustainability) and this tends to affect both their
concerns and their recommendations. Judging from what I know about the
Hudson Institute and from some of their past reports, I think it safe to say
that this institute is a think-tank run and funded by people operating with
a set of right-of-center political and economic presuppositions. Some of
this is apparent in their press release on the paper. I plan to read the
report when it becomes available, but will do so with this in mind.

The transition to sustainability is like a bend in the road. It will be
the end of the road only if we fail to negotiate the turn.
