			JOB ANNOUNCEMENT 

Carolina Farm Stewardship Association is currently seeking an
individual to fill the Executive Director position.  To apply, interested

				ABOUT CFSA
	Carolina Farm Stewardship Association is a non-profit, membership
association. CFSA promotes sustainable agriculture through educational
conferences, workshops, and farm tours; research, and demonstration; and
operates an organic certification program in North & South Carolina.
CFSA's mission is to...  
...promote sustainable agriculture through education, research, demonstration 
and certification;  
...provide a forum for support and discussion of standards for 
environmentally responsible agriculture;
...and work toward a community in which consumers can choose farm -products
produced organically and growers can make a living providing these
products. 

				JOB DESCRIPTION 
Title: Executive Director 
Salary: minimum of $25,000 annually with upward potential based on 
	performance.  
Benefits: $1000 reimbursement of health insurance coverage
  	2 weeks annual vacation leave 
Hours: Full-time, as required
Responsible to: CFSA Board of Directors, through the Board President. 

Skills & Experience:  
Demonstrated ability to manage a variety of concurrent tasks.  
Demonstrated ability to manage staff and contracted workers effectively.  
Ability to work effectively and creatively with volunteers
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with a diverse 
clientele, including limited resource to moderately sized farmers, 
non-governmental organization representatives, extension and
university faculty and staff, representatives of foundations, donor
corporations, and others.  
Work experience and/or knowledge in sustainable agriculture and organic 
farming.  
Work experience and/or knowledge in non-profit administration, 
fundraising, grant writing and administration. 
Strong oral and written communication skills.  

Education:  
An advanced degree in an agricultural, educational or other relevant 
field of study is preferred but not required.  Experience may be 
substituted for education. 

Responsibilities:  
Facilitate the work of the Board of Directors, including program 
planning, implementation and oversight, annual budgeting, financial oversight, establishment
and pursuance of annual and 5 year goals, and advise on the judicious use
of organizational resources.  
Assist the Board in their efforts to raise funds for the organization's 
activities, including facilitating the organization of fundraising 
campaigns, meeting with donors, writing grants and meeting with 
foundation staff; writing regular fundraising letters,
and maintaining records on donors.  
Serve as chief administrative and financial officer.  
Oversee and as necessary, carry forward, CFSA's programmatic activities.  
Current programs include the Sustainable Agriculture Conference, Partners 
in Agriculture, the Spring Farm Tour, the Organic Vegetable School, 
Organic Certification, the Stewardship News. 
Serve as CFSA's primary spokesperson.  
Hire, supervise, evaluate, and, if necessary, fire CFSA staff and 
contract personnel.  
Represent CFSA, organic farmers, and sustainable agriculture interests at 
state and local meetings.  
Insure that the CFSA membership database and financial records
are maintained, and tax reports and payments are made regularly.  
Recruit volunteers and creatively manage their skills and energies to 
accomplish CFSA's mission.
