I think that the present discussions of the Avery paper are wonderful. I
found the Avery presentation thought provoking becuase it did move to the
bigger picture but thought that the solution was simplistic (having
worked for several years in Mali West africa I keep wondering how those
people are supposed to pay for all the wonderful production in the dear
old USofA) and really appreciate John Ikerd's comments and your.
You mentioned the need for demonstration. The challenge (or maybe
soft paradigm shift) is that it will take millions of demonstrations
since the agricultural question is fundametally a site specific question.
The shift then is accepting the tension of bringing theory and practice
together to test each other (a process known as praxis) with local
management and decisionmaking. All this in and of the Global Village.
