Biennial Sweetclover on Landfill Cover

The following is a query which I just received and am hoping someone on the
list has the answer to. Please respond to the landfill and myself - that
way next time I know the answer :)

>I have a question and look forward to your reply. The landfill is now
>covered with 46 acres of crimson clover in full bloom, which is a sight to
>behold (come over if you can think of an excuse!) We have recently
>discovered a scattering of biennial sweetclover, which must have been
>present in the seed mix. My book on cover crops (put out by Rodale
>Institute) says that long thick roots of sweetclovers can extend as deep as
>8 feet. Do you think that we need to worry about these roots damaging the
>landfill cover? Do you think we should try to remove all of it? Will it
>agressively spread via seeds? There isn't much at all now, maybe 50 plants
>total. The liner is pretty tough stuff - 40 ml pvc, that's almost
>impossible to tear. Do you think roots could weaken or pierce it?
