Sustainable Development Challenge Grants
This is an informational item only. Please do not send questions to

On or about May 24 there will be a Federal Register notice
announcing a Sustainable Development Challenge Grants program
sponsored by EPA. In FY96 it is expected that 3 projects in the
$50-100k range and 4 or more projects at up to $50k will be
awarded, for a total of $500k. A larger pool has been requested for
FY97 ($10M).
The grants are intended to catalyze community-based and regional
projects to promote sustainable development; build partnerships to
increase community long term capacity to protect the environment;
and leverage significant public and private investments to enhance
environmental quality by enabling sustainable community efforts
to continue beyond EPA funding. Public agencies, institutions, and
organizations, including not-for-profits are eligible.
The draft Fed Register notice contains a list of examples, including
one that involves sustainable agriculture.
