National Conference on
Children with Sensitivities
Ottawa - 31 May, 1 June
Algonquin College Woodroffe Cafeteria
Many children experience health, learning or behaviour problems
when they eat certain foods, or when exposed to pollution. That's the
subject of the upcoming National Conference on Children with
Sensitivities, sponsored by the Allergy and Environmental Health
Association. It's on the weekend bridging National Access Awareness
Week, and National Environment Week. Keynote speaker is Dr. Doris J.
Rapp, MD, a pediatric allergist specializing in environmental medicine,
recommended by the Ontario Ministry of Education and Training. Dr.
Rapp, an internationally renowned authority and author on children with
sensitivities - The Impossible Child, and Is This Your Child? - is
perhaps the foremost expert on the subject in North America.
Also at the conference - an update on the new, provincially-funded
clinic for people with environmental health problems, at Women's College
Hospital in Toronto. And experts from several fields will share
practical solutions to helping children with sensitivities, including
the Ontario Medical Association's special education advisor, CMHC air-
quality researchers, builders knowledgeable about indoor air quality, a
psychologist who deals with children with behaviour problems caused by
sensitivities, school board representatives from Ontario boards
accommodating this sometimes disabling problem, and representatives from
the Learning Disabilities Association, the Lung Association, and the
Allergy and Environmental Health Association (AEHA).
