USDA's 5-Year Plan?
Dear Sanettists:
I've been reading GAO's most recent take on USDA (_Agricultural Research:
Information on Research System and USDA's Priority Setting_, March 1996,
GAO/RCED-96-92, available on the Web and by mail), and it refers (p.50) to
the development of a 5-year strategic plan for USDA-supported research. The
agency involved is the USDA Research, Education, and Economics mission area.
The draft was supposed to be completed by last March, and an "extensive
review process" was then to start.
Has anybody heard about this draft? This is the first I've heard, and
ordinarily I'd expect to see some back-and-forth on it, since sustainable ag
research is, or should be, a big part of all this. (Just as I hope to see
plenty of discussion about the National Research Council's recently-released
"prepublication" edition of _Colleges of Agriculture at the Land Grant
Universities: Public Service and Public Policy_.)
Anybody know about the strategic plan?
