soil quality assistantship



Hello, as a new list subscriber I would like to introduce myself briefly
and to post a position announcement that I hope will be of interest to some
on the list.  I am an assistant professor of soil fertility/ecology at the
university of Illinois in Champaign Urbana.  My research program is focused
on management practices' impacts on soil properties; two areas of
particular interest are soil organic matter and soil quality.  If you know
anyone who might be interested in the following assistantship, please share
it with them.

Research Assistantship to characterize use invariant and use-variant soil
quality parameters and follow up on research findings suggesting that soil
physical properties may be key contributors to soil quality in Illinois.
Position includes three years of annual tuition free stipend ($13,000) for
a Ph.D. level student.  Funding is through a Cooperative Agreement between
the Natural Resources Conservation Service and the Illinois Soil Quality
Initiative.  Project will be carried out as part of a large multivariate
study of Illinois farm soils.  Applicant should have MS in soil science or
closely related field.  A background that includes one or all of the
following is desired:  pedology, field experience, participatory research,
