Worm Castings

A growing number of commercial products are being sold as "worm
castings." While most appear to be thoroughly digested organic matter,
some of the products out there appear to be somewhat generous in their
use of the term. Is there a clear line to help define what can be
called "worm castings" and what can be called undecomposed organic
matter, analogous to the thermophilic/mesophilic/humification stages
in aerobic compost? Also, since worm castings are made in temperatures
of between 40-80° F., you don't get the temperatures necessary to kill
weed seeds & pathogens. How do worm castings compare w/compost in weed
seed and pathogen (both plant & human) assays?
