              INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON HORTICULTURAL ECONOMICS
                       TO BE HELD AT RUTGERS UNIVERSITY


NEW BRUNSWICK, July 2, 1996...The Department of Agricultural Economics and
Marketing of Rutgers University is proud to host the XIIIth International
Symposium on Horticultural Economics to be held at the Cook College Campus,
August 4-9.

      Representatives from more than 25 countries will be participating in the
conference -- the first to be held in the U.S.  The primary focus is to bring
together professionals working in the areas of economics, management,
marketing, and labor management in all horticultural sectors to exchange
research, techniques, and ideas.

      Dr. Robin G. Brumfield, Specialist in Farm Management and convener of
the conference, said, "The conference will feature an excellent program with
approximately 80 invited and selected papers on topics including Management,
Greenhouse Management; Marketing; Quality Management; Fruits and Vegetables;
Computers and Information, Floriculture and Ornamentals, Sustainability,
Development; and Consumer Attitudes, Preferences and Demand."  Brumfield
continued, "Attendees will participate in tours of the largest blueberry
grower in the world, the largest New Jersey winery, the largest produce
auction in the U.S., some of the best managed greenhouses in the country, and
Princeton Nurseries, one of the largest wholesale nurseries in the U.S."

      Officials are expecting between 200 to 300 people to attend the
