Re: Pharming - A Word to Watch

Fascinating concept, the Idea comes to me that raising genetically
altered animals for extractable medicinal components would "need" to be
done in an "organic" manner for the very best results. Administering
inappropriate hormones or chemicals into the diet of such a critter could
cause the animals valuble milk, urine, or secretion to vary in quality,
while offering the critter excellent organic fodder, exercise, and
sunshine can hardly be faulted for providing longivity in valuble living
assetts. I have heard of the Mares of Wyeth Ayerst, which provide the
urine from which Premarin is extracted. The unfortunate truth is that the
equines are sadly mistreated, for the golden wealth they give up to
their corporate owner. Perhaps a parabel to keep in mind is The Goose Who
Laid the Golden Egg. If that goose were in your stewardship, wouldn't it
pay to treat that bird like a Queen of her kind? Bella
