Community-based R&D for more sustainable resource management practices

The Landcare Research SAL Research Programme Web site has been updated to
outline the Integrated Systems for Knowledge Management (ISKM) approach.
this participatory research framework is designed to support communities
in the identification and adoption of more sustainable
resource/environmental/agricultural practices. This site can be found at:

http://www.landcare.cri.nz/sal/

The ISKM approach is participatory in nature, recognising that
resource/environmental management issues are increasingly characterised
by multiple social perspectives. Because management options must be
shaped according to changing ecological and socio-economic conditions and
factors it is based on principles of active adaptive management. Finding
out about complex and dynamic situations, and then taking action to
improve them, forms the basis for developing the necessary learning
environment to facilitate constructive and voluntary change.
