Using photosynthesis the plant produces Glucose (carbohydrate) by itself,
transforming carbon dioxide and water.

                sun light
6 CO2 + 6 H20   --------->   C6O6H12

So it wouldn't make much sense to absorb carbohydrates. It even could
disturb this complex reaction, which drives the whole metabolism of the
plant.

But I'dont know it definitely ;-) Oh, at that moment my wife, an
agricultural engineer, enters the room and she confirms my thesis :-). Only
small amino acids and inorganic nutrients are absorbed via roots.

Furtheron I suppose the process of degrading the carbohydrates to smaller
molecules (CO2, organic acids as lactic acid, acetic acid) by metabolism of
bacteria and funghi will be much faster than resorption by plants. These
metabolic products may have a benefical effect on plant growth by
increasing solubility and availability of nutrients.

I know of positive experiences applying fermented slurry of cereals and
wastes of bread production to fields and plants. It's a cocktail of lactic
acid bacteria, lactic acid and nutrients.

So far my knowledge on plant nutrition ;-)
