Re: Nitrogen and Brix Level

The basic answer to your question is that you need to improve your soil,
so that the brix count will be high, above 12. Then the crop will not be
bothered by pests or disease, will be truly healthy.

If you add the correct materials to make the soil optimum for soil
organisms, the crop will have a high brix, more suger, more minerals, more
protein, higher specific gravity, loser freezing point.

If you want to know what to add, go over the organic fertilizer/soil
amendment lists and see what you did not provide. Then add that. Very good
compost, made from a great variety of materials, is overall the best.
Well, maybe I should say leaf mold is the very best, but it is hard to
get, is expwnsive, and takes 2 years to make (leaving leaves piled,
moist, for abut 2 years).

But compost is easy to make, altho it takes a raft of material to get
enough for a whole garden . For farm scale, on e can in many places now
order it by the ton. Or a farmer can, just like a gardener, make his own
supply, using long windrows turned by machine.
