This is the hype behind the 'organic movement'.  In order to be able to produce 
with such ineffective methods, they have to get a high price.  By leading the 
consumer to believe that they are going to get a horrible diesease or such, 
they can justifie their price.  While much of what they claim can be 
documented, it is not the normal ag practise but the abnormal caused by 
extreme events that makes the documentation possible.
No farmer wants to create a bad product as that will put him out of business in 
the future.  However, he sometimes has to resort to extreme measures to be in 
business tomorrow.  Blame the banker and wall street, not the steward of our 
land.

But then the arguement would not be effective.
