1997 National Wetlands Awards Program

The Environmental Law Institute and the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency announced today that nominations are now being
sought for the 1997 National Wetlands Awards Program.

The National Wetlands Awards Program honors individuals who have
demonstrated excellence and dedication in the field of wetlands
protection through programs or projects operative at the regional,
state, or local level.  Federal employees and organizations are
not eligible to win.

The five Award categories are: Education and Outreach, Science
Research, Volunteer Leadership, Land Stewardship and Development,
and Outstanding Wetlands Program Development.  Awardees will be
chosen by an Award Selection Committee comprised of wetland
experts drawn from business and trade organizations, conservation
groups, and state and federal government.  Winners will be honored
in May 1997 at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.

For more than two decades, the Environmental Law Institute has
helped shape environmental law, management, and policy. Through
its information services, training courses and seminars, research
programs, and policy recommendations, the Environmental Law
Institute has become an internationally recognized, independent
non-profit research and educational center fostering the
development of creative solutions to critical environmental
problems.

submission is January 15, 1997.
