Elders
SENIOR CITIZENS ARE PEOPLE TOO
"NOBODY HAS EVER DIED FROM DANDELION POISONING!"
This should be considered only half a statement, For completion, the
legislator should have added: "S0 WHY PUT REAL POISON ON IT ?"
Its time someone speaks up for our senior citizens as we have been for
our childrens health.
Why do seniors citizens at Hershey Mills Villages on Green Hill Road in
West Chester, PA need so many chemical pesticides? They even use
chemicals along the road on Green Hill Rd. Who cares if there are
dandelions out there? Fresh Fields is making profit selling
dandelions. While these people make outrageous amounts of money
spraying chemicals, i.e., where your loved ones are who do not
understand the dangers. They were out there today as I passed spraying
something wearing all types of protective clothing.
I was told that when they have a tree that is predisposed to a pest from
improper planting or poor soil conditions they do nothing until the tree
is really in bad shape and then they use chemical pesticides. I was
also told that they use nitrogen fertilizer on the grass and chemical
herbicides to get rid of broad leaf plants. Well anybody who
understands soil knows that nitrogen fertilizer encourages broad leaf
growth, e.g., dandelions. I was also told that they use nitrogen that
does not contaminate water. I know of no such chemical. There is a new
awareness noticeable as far as soil management is concerned, and we can
help each other see what we look at, feel what we touch, and
understand what we hear and what our environment is all about.
Soil is not just simply dirt! It is a living entity and has to be
treated as such. Just as other living beings, including humans, need
micro-organisms in order to survive the soil must be fed by adding
composted materials which, in turn, if added in the right amount will
facilitate micro-organisms and prevent the sun from baking the soil.
Trees and grass will do the same. In the fields and other areas we need
to correct the mistakes which are still being made, primarily the
addition of PESTICIDES, HERBICIDES, AND FUNGICIDES.
It has never been shown scientifically that these chemicals help the
living soil. On the contrary, they frequently kill many of its'
components such as earthworms and a host of micro-organisms. This must
be brought to the attention of people who are merely interested in
environmental aesthetics and not the living soil.
I just believe that if this is showing LOVE to our ELDERS they give LOVE
a bad name.
