Information Technology for Farmers -
A Practical Guide

There's a revolution taking place in the world of farming - something that
will alter the way we do things in
the future and for generations to come. Information Technology and the
Internet are having an impact on all
areas of agriculture, not just for accounts and ordering, but as a way of
focusing, organising and
streamlining business.

Information Technology is so much more than just a personal computer in the
office. The Institution of
Agricultural Engineers in association with Rhône-Poulenc Agriculture will
be holding a one-day seminar
and workshop at Silsoe College to demystify the whole subject of IT in
agriculture.

One aspect of it, the Internet, has opened up a storehouse of free
information for farmers from grain prices
to satellite pictures. The morning session of the seminar will be
coordinated by journalist and farmer
Marie Skinner of STATUS, and will include an introduction to the Internet,
E-mail, Newsgroups and the
World Wide Web, using live demonstrations.

In the afternoon, experts in the fields of Precision Farming, Satellite
Mapping & Positioning, On-line
Services and Field Recommendations will explain and demonstrate what IT can
do for agriculture,
complete with Success Stories from their fields.

Throughout the day there will be ample opportunity to use the hands-on
facilities of Silsoe College to
experience the world of IT.
