A. Organizing the World Wide Web for Water in California

The Water On-line Steering Committee would like WOL to help catalyze the
development of a permanent "entry" website from which a browser could
logically find any California water related resource on the Net. This site
would run in conjunction with the advances in search engines and would act
more as a library "subject" directory. (For an example, see the Planning
and Architectural Internet Resources Center -
www.arch.buffalo.edu/pairc/index.html).

1. Recruit a university or other institution to eventually take
responsibility for the site. Water On-line will begin the site but should
eventually pass on the hosting and maintenance to another institution with
the resources to ensure the site meets its potential and will be maintained
over time. Wolf will begin discussions with UC Berkeley, UC Davis, UCLA,
other UCs, Cal State Sacramento, the State Library and others.

2. In the meantime, Water On-line will circulate a draft outline of
possible water subjects to include on the homepage. Wolf will also write an
explanation of how different associations, agencies, businesses and other
interested groups could "host" different sub-directories and build them to
provide a complete guide to all Web related information in that subject
area. (eg. Will the WateReuse Association take on the subject of Water
Reclamation on their homepage?)

B. Workshops that Advance the Use of the Internet by California's Water
Community

1. On November 13, 1996, Water On-line will host a one-day set of
workshops and speakers to precede the sixth annual California Water Policy
conference which will be held at the Los Angeles Biltmore Hotel on November
14-15. A separate set of notes will be presented explaining the conference
outline and possible workshops. The Water On-line mailing list participants
will be given an opportunity to comment on the workshops and speakers.

2. ACWA will include a special one-day set of Internet related workshops to
precede its fall Conference (December 4-6, 1996). Water On-line will work
closely with ACWA to help them develop their workshops and to ensure that
duplication with other conferences is minimized.

3. Water On-line will encourage the WateReuse Association conference and
other related conferences to hold workshops on the water and the Internet
at their annual gatherings.
