Establish Mailing List for Remote Sensing, GIS, Statistics (fwd)

I received this message from Dr. Raymond L. Czaplewski and asked me to forward
it to people who has interst to join the mailing list. Please so not respond to
me.

Subject: Statisticians working with remote sensing and geographic
                   information systems

         To: mailserver@nic.funet.fi
(Internet mailing list for Forest Scientists)

I would like to build a mailing list of statisticians working with
remote sensing and geographic information systems (GIS), and
remote sensing specialists that have experience or strong interest
         in such statistical applications.

Statistical applications include data quality (accuracy)
assessments of maps; estimates of area by thematic class (e.g.,
hectares of degraded forest, with bias from misclassification
removed); small area estimation (e.g., proportion of 5,000-ha
watershed that contains old-growth forest using sample survey data
         and thematic maps for the surrounding 500,000-ha forest reserve);
estimation of contingency tables with complex surveys (e.g., GIS
data combined with two-phase sampling, including classifications
of aerial photography and field data); estimation of probability
transition matrices for changes in land cover and land use over
time (i.e., change detection for detailed categories to develop
empirical forecasts of future cover types); development of
empirical GIS models (especially combined with sample survey
data), such as probability of occurrence of rare events; etc.

Members of this list might be requested to review related journal
manuscripts and serve on scientific review panels. Copies of list
would be made freely available upon request.

         Broad international representation is sought.

PLEASE REPLY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED. Your curriculum vitae, a
brief description of your experience, or list of your publications
would be useful, especially in electronic format.

Please forward to anyone else who might be interested.

Thank you in advance for your generosity.
