It could happen.  Not so much from the bacteria not being there, but more
from the unfavorable bacteria that will set up residence if the good
ones are killed.

After a course of antibiotics in mice, it takes only 10 salmonella
or shigella bacteria to cause bowel problems.  In mice with 
normal flora, it takes a million harmful bacteria to cause problems.

One treatment is to take turmeric and fennel three times a day until
under control, among other things.  If it is real chronic colitis, 
I would also take antiparasitic herbs.
