"Fifth disease" was named that because it was one of the five common
rash & fever causers among children (the two measles, chicken pox, and
one I have forgotten).
It is now wknown to be caused by one of the parvo family of viruses
(parvo means tiny ... and it's remotely related to the dog virus of
the recent epidemic).
Usually not serious, but like any virus it could get out of hand if
the victim's immune system is under-powered (from chemo, steroids, HIV
or any immune deficiency).

Go to http://www.altavists.digital.com and search for "Fifth disease"
and you'll get a truckload of sites and pages.
