Subject: BetaSweet Carrots Date: Sat, 30 Jan 1999 23:50:20 -0600 Newsgroups: rec.gardens I read an article in Boy's Life recently about a new variety of carrot called Beta Sweets. They are purple not orange, and they are supposed to be much sweeter than regular carrots. I thought it would be fun to grow some. Does anybody know where to get seed? The Nov/Dec issue of Organic Gardening mentions them (about 1 line comment) on p. 29. It says they are a new release from Leonard Pike, Ph. D. at Texas A&M. The article indicates that seed is not available, but is that the last word on the subject? - Reply: ------ I heard of this years ago as the Texas Aggie Carrot, bred at Texas A&M with school color, purple.
