(fwd) As an agroecologist and also agronomist I have made a study of ancient ag. systems, and yes ,they were sustainable, until European contact, wiped most of it out, including most of the farmers here in Hawaii, from disease. See my Paper (abstract) on the IFOAM page which I presented in Copenhagen in August. Go to my web page for links to my paper(IFOAM PAGES) "Ancient Hawaiian Agriculture as a model for Sustainability" ,my studies include the Maya of Belize, the Anastazi of the U.S. Southwest, and farming methods in Egypt and Africa.
