Larry,
Would you appreciate info from our Permaculture and LMS community
in West Australia.
Could people subscribe to our Newsletters.
I can also manage a list from you within EEPO. This list is already
partially set up as perma.
We are getting a number of permies to moderate info from groups they
subscribe to.
Hope I'm getting it right. (etiquit wyse)

Permaculture stands for "permanent" and "culture" or "agriculture". This
concept was designed by Bill Mollison, who wrotes some books on this topic.
You can find an usefull definition on the gopher server located on

Our community of families is rehabbing an old farm in NC along permaculture
lines. We are inundated with ticks and chiggers. Any environmentally
sound ways of controlling these pests? Thanks,

Hello Fellow Permies

I was going through one of my back issues of the Permaculture International
Journal (Aug 92) in which Robyn McCurdy and Doi Simpson of New Zealand, in
their description of their property design happen to briefly mention that they
prize dandelion for its medicinal uses. I am aware that one can make wine and
use this flower in salads. Can anyone tell me or provide usefull reference of
information about its medicinal uses. I would be interested to find out.

On a completely different topic... I have heard rumours that there maybe some
Permaculture curriculums out there. I would be happy if someone could send
some reference info. on any curriculums, lessons, or information set up for
teaching at the elementary or high school levels.

Thank you in advance...

Roland and Carrie Schmidt-Bellach

In the August 1994 issue of Writer's Digest there was an announcement of
the top award winner in their nonfiction book category. It went to
a book entitled: Humic, Fulvic and Microbial Balance: Organic Soil
Conditioning by William R. Jackson, PhD. It results from 9 years of
research and is 958 pages. It's available for $149 plus $8 shipping
and handling from Jackson Research Center, Box 3577, Evergreen,
Colorado 80439. In the description they say that the book is
exhaustively researched and beautifully presented and organized along
with the comment that is both comprehensive and accessible.

I look forward to the list of permaculture FAQs. I would also like to see
the information as a web page.

Perhaps you could forward this question to the FAQ list...
Is there a list of things I can do to support permaculture in my area?
Suggested reading list or on line sources of information?

Thanks for all your efforts on this worthy project.

Thanks to Larry London and others who responded by private
email in response to my Permaculture FAQ project post.

There seems to be good support for this FAQ. Based on a
lot of questions I got, there obviously is a need for more
permaculture concepts, practices, and resources on the
Internet too.

If you can point me to where these standards are available,
or shoot them to me, we'll try to follow them.

Yes, if you have documents or comments on permaculture, you
can shoot them to me via email, or post them on
permaculture-mg. I am primarily thinking of files or resources
folks have in their own collection that have not been posted before.

I have access to Sunsite so there's no need to duplicate these;
likewise with other common gopher sites. Just tell me the
location for existing stuff already loaded on the net.

Thanks again!

Hello fellow Permaculturists,

I will first introduce myself (for I have been lurking for a couple of
months now). I call myself Mike Morel and I am a university student up
in Canada.

About six months ago, I was flicking through my parents TV to see if
there was documentary, or something similar of interest, on. I happened
upon a white bearded guy who was showing a new way of life. The cord he
struck in me was one of shock! What he was describing was exactly the
sort of world I want to live in. So, that next weekend I went on a
determined hunt for more information on this bizarre way of life called
"Permaculture". My first stop took me to the library, where the exact
book by this white bearded Bill Mollison was found. Unfortunately there
were 17 holds on the book - I still may not have had a good at it. So I
went to the book store and ordered it, rationalizing that this really
isn't a whim, but rather an investment into my future.

Well, since then I have been ploughing through the textbook. I now
notice things that will help make this work for me in the future, so I
will try to integrate them into my lifestyle.

Unfortunately, being a starving student, my dream will be a slow process
of building, rather than something I can just jump directly into.

I guess what I am after is stories on how other people have gotten into
Permaculture. Are you living it? Or are you just integrating small
pieces of it into your existing life? How did you develop it into your
life? What were some of your set-backs? How does you work and family
fit into all of this?

I thank you for your time and effort.

Mike
