Re: Wasp statistics and Re: generalizations
Very interesting thread. Like Jack, I grew up on a farm where spraying
2-4,D and 2-4-5, T on weeds and DDT and Lord-knows-what was common. I
expect I might pay for that some day.
Since discovering how much better soil-improvement methods work (going
beyond just compost), I know exactly what he means when he talks about a
variety of insects living in the garden. Mine is absolutely alive, either
on the vegetables or on the strip of wildflowers I maintain in the hobby
orchard near the garden. And, neither my veggies nor my fruit suffer any
significant losses any more.
I can't prove it, but I do believe things taste better, too. It seems like
they have much more sugars and more complex flavors.
My only remaining serious pest(s) are slugs and snails. Wish some wasp
would get to work on them!
