Perhaps I could have said it differently, but I think we are talking
about the same thing. A small plot of land can certainly have an active
ecosystem, though not as in depth or involved as my understanding of the
previous poster was indicating they would rather discuss. My point was
intended to be that there is room for both, a 1/4 acre lot and a 100+
acre farm. 

The reference to a natural ecosystem is simply due to the fact that you
can't support the same variety of wildlife on a small plot as you can on
a large chunk of land, and just because it's limited doesn't mean in my
opinion that it couldn't be open for discussion here. Your neighbors
practices will have too great an impact on a small plot to come close to
a full ecosystem, though you can provide a home for what will live or
feed in a small yard. Mine is full of lizards, toads, a couple of
snakes, spiders, etc. Birds and larger wildlife however are influenced
by my surroundings enough that I can't influence them as much. Therefore
it's not a full or natural ecosystem, but it's as close as I can come to
it in my situation.
