I grew up with a deodar in the front lawn in so. california, and it did
just fine. also kept one in a pot for years as a christmas tree, it now
grows happily in the ground in the coast range of Oregon. my guess is yes,
your mom could probably grow a deodar, as long as her coldest winter temps
don't generally go below the teens (in F). a couple of notes though - they
not only grow fast, they grow *big*. make sure you really want to plant a
tree this big. I also found that my deodar, much as I loved it, would give
me a rash each time I touched it because the needles have extremely sharp
tips.
