AT LSP'S 15TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION SEPT. 13

Monday, Aug. 11, 1997
WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. Ñ ÒThe Landscape of StewardshipÓ is the theme of the Land
Stewardship ProjectÕs (LSP) all-day 15th anniversary celebration, Sept. 13, at
the Scott County Fairgrounds in Jordan, Minn. The event will feature music,
speakers, good food, fun activities for kids and an opportunity to see a
sustainable farm firsthand. It begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at 9 p.m.

The event will kick-off with a keynote address, ÒStewardship and the New
Agriculture: Planning the Harvest We Desire,Ó by Neil Hamilton. Hamilton is the
director of the Drake University Agricultural Law Center and writes a regular
column on food and farming issues for the Des Moines Register.

Following the speech will be a tour of the Dave and Florence Minar farm near New

others. The Minars have been farming virtually without chemicals for more than
two decades and have converted their award-winning dairy operation to a
grass-based system. En route to the Minar farm, a Òstewardship stationÓ will
feature a discussion of urban sprawl and ways for bringing about sustainable
development in rural and urban areas.

The day will wrap-up with a pork barbecue supper with all the trimmings and an
evening concert by John Gorka, an internationally acclaimed musician who is
featured in the LSP video Houses in the Fields. Gorka is Ñ in the words of
Rolling Stone magazine Ñ ÒThe preeminent male singer/songwriter of the new folk
movement.Ó
