It seems to me you answered your own question. Apparently, a little
"sensibility and intelligence" coupled with education, conversation and
financial resources to cover implementation costs is enough to overcome the
presumed deficiencies of not watching TV, not travelling and shunning the
larger culture.
Would it be that the great TV watchers and travellers of the masses
were so sensible and intelligence that they could so easily be brought to
implement the BMPs in our lives.
