Position Announcement: Temporary, Part-time Technical Specialist,
Agriculture

National private nonprofit organization seeks a highly motivated,
outgoing person with  a combination of  work experience and training. 
We are especially searching for  technical and practical expertise in
agronomy, soils, integrated pest management and/or horticulture
related to sustainable agriculture systems. This is a part-time,
temporary position with the Appropriate Technology Transfer for Rural
Areas (ATTRA).  ATTRA is a national, sustainable agriculture
information service administered by the private nonprofit
organization, NCAT (National Center for Appropriate Technology) and
funded through USDA's Rural Business-Cooperative Service (RBS). 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:  Provides farmers, ranchers and
agricultural organizations with information and technical assistance
on environmentally sound practices for agronomic and horticultural
crops.   Work includes answering a tollfree telephone line, and
responding in writing and electronically .  Summarizes, reviews and
synthesizes information from a variety of resources, including
personal contacts, electronic resources, periodicals and other
specialized materials.

Requirements: Applicant should have, as a minimum, a Master of Science
degree  in agronomy, soils, integrated pest management, and/or
horticulture OR a combination of farming or other work experience,
education and training which demonstrates equivalency.  Experience in
commercial horticultural or agronomic production is  preferred.  A
demonstrated interest in environmentally sound practices and
familiarity with concepts of sustainability and appropriate technology
is preferred.  Applicant must communicate clearly by telephone, in
writing, and in person, and have strong organizational and
interpersonal skills.  Strong computer and information management
skills, especially in Windows or Microsoft environment, preferred. 

Compensation:  The starting salary for the position is based upon
experience, but the minimum will be $10.64 per hour.

Working Environment: The position will be with the ATTRA program in
the NCAT-Fayetteville office on the campus of the University of
Arkansas in Fayetteville.. Creative teamwork office environment. Must
be able to use a computer keyboard and screen, and work effectively
with stress related to deadlines and multiple priorities. Start and
end dates will be negotiated based on candidate's availability and
ATTRA project priorities.
