GBlist: water usage
Thanks to: Mark DeKay, James.Olivia, Richard Dean, Rob Watson, Elena

for their input on the residential water usage question.
The General consensus seems to be that- it depends. Where you live seems
to matter. Arid regions use more (up to 270 gal/person/day) while those
living in Boston, where they have to pay more for their water, use
substantially less.
The average seems to be somewhere between 80 and 110 gallons per person
per day. That's alot of water!
Our household averages 100 gallons per day, for two adults and one young
child (33 gal ea). Ithought maybe my meter was broke... until I read the
Nat'l averages. We use 1.6 gal toilets, low flow shower heads (average 6
showers total per week), and an Asko washer. We don't water our yard at
all. We collect rain water for our gardens.
Sure seems tough to bring that number down!
