GBlist: more flourescent questions...

Following up on an earlier posting about turning off flourescent bulbs...

Anybody have any hard evidence about using IR occupancy sensors in areas of
high frequency - short stay traffic like bathrooms. An old electrician friend
says that anything over 3 on/off cycles a day shortens the life of the
flourescent bulb by up to half. The PG+E energy lab in SF disagrees, but
can't say how many on/off cycles is too many. Any experience?

Thanks,
