[seedsavers] soiless mix query?

Greetings the list,
Ihope this is not too off-topic here ( please let me know, if so) and
i will speak only of seed. Tho we are not certified organic, and do not
plan to be, i grow all crops naturally with sustainable soil stewarding
methods. The only thing i am concerned about is an unknown ingredient in
my starting mix. I have not had response elsewhere when asking about
this, so thought to try here. I use ProMix - and the ingredients are:
Peat, Perlite, Lime, and a wetting agent. How can i know what this
mysterious wetting agent is? i have heard they are different things,
depending on where the mix is made - one being a yucca extract.
Often i have thought i would enjoy contributing to projects such as
Cricket's, but cannot afford govt. certification or the paperwork as i
grow so very many things. At least i CAN keep my personal growing ethics
intact, if not projects such as that good one!
If you are in-the-know, please fill me in. I suppose i should call the
company, but usually try the frugal approach of asking folk who care :)
Thanks,
Toni
p.s. - the Salsify was fantastice, and thankfully had not a trace of
oyster flavor! Instead, we found it tasting like our beloved Artichokes
(texture of the stem portion) from our central California lives, where we
enjoyed 90 days more of growing season than KY! Gotta get my 48'
hoophouse finished this year :)
