July
21, 2006
Dear
Leesville Road High School Students and Parents:
The beginning of the 2006-2007 school year is just
around the corner. Thus, several
important items/events, and their corresponding dates, will require the
attention of the student body and our staff members to insure a positive start
to the school year. Please take time to
carefully review the following list prior to the first day of class, August 25.
1)
Class Schedule: Your class schedule is enclosed in this mailing. The hours of the school day are 7:25
a.m.-2:18 p.m. All students should be
in their 1st period class by 7:25 a.m. on a daily basis. The room numbers on your class schedule
offer a key for identifying the location of your classrooms. Room numbers with two or three digits are in
the Main Building. Four-digit room
numbers are located in the East Building.
Lunch periods will not appear on your schedule. Your lunch period will be revealed on August
25 by your teachers.
2)
Off-Campus Lunch Pass: Seniors and juniors may pick up a previously-requested lunch pass
or apply for a lunch pass in the school’s main lobby on August 22. Senior lunch pass requests will be honored
from 5:00-5:45 p.m.; whereas, the time period reserved for juniors will be
5:45-6:30 p.m. You must know the
teacher name and room number of your 3rd period class to apply for a
lunch pass. Also, a parent
must accompany you on this evening unless the “notarized form process” outlined
in the July 11 mailing is used.
3)
Parking Pass: Students may not park on campus without a valid LRHS parking
permit. You must have a valid,
permanent N.C. Driver’s License to purchase a parking permit. All students must use their assigned parking
spaces starting August 25. The charge
for parking on campus is $120.00. All checks should be made payable to
Leesville Road High School. Forms for
requesting a parking pass were made available to all students through the July
11 mailing. Parking pass requests sent
to the school by August 8 will be processed and mailed to students on August
9. After August 8, students who need a
parking pass may obtain one from the main office on August 21, 22, or
23 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
Students should bring a parent with them to obtain a parking pass on
these days or bring a completed “2006-2007 Student Parking Form” with a parent
signature.
4)
New Student Orientation: An orientation for students new to our school is scheduled for
August 23 from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
This event will begin with a brief opening session in the gym at 10:00
a.m. Upon the completion of the opening
session, students and parents may walk through their schedule and find their
classrooms in preparation for the first day of classes. The orientation activities will end at 12:00
p.m.
5)
Semester 1 Open House: Open House for Semester 1 is scheduled for September
11 at 7:00 p.m. Additional information regarding this event will be shared after the
start of the school year. A Semester 2 Open House is scheduled for February
8.
6)
Traffic: The parking lots behind the school are reserved for
students and selected staff members only.
A single lane is used for entry to the student parking lot in the
mornings. Entry to the parking lots
behind the school is prohibited from 2:00-2:45 p.m. due to the students’ use of
both lanes to exit the campus during this time period. To park on campus during school hours, a
valid LRHS parking permit must be displayed in a student’s vehicle at all
times. Students may not park on the
circle or any of the driveways between the hours of 7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
7)
Lunch Prices: Lunch prices for the
2006-2007 school year are $2.00 for plate lunch and $.40 for reduced price
lunch.
8)

schedule is the one to be used on a daily basis on our campus in the absence of
special events, such as assemblies, and/or delayed openings due to inclement
weather.

9)
Bus Routes: The bus routes for the 2006-2007 school year are enclosed in this
mailing. Please make sure you know the
route number of your bus. Buses are
parked in the bus parking lot according to route numbers. The parking spaces for buses are labeled by
route number. Students need to keep up
with their route number, not their bus number.
(Bus numbers may change throughout the year; however, route numbers will
remain constant.) The Transportation
Office may be reached at 870-4275 if you have any questions.
10) Dress Code: The WCPSS dress code continues to be in effect. Examples of prohibited dress include exposed
undergarments, sagging pants, excessively short or tight garments, bare midriff
shirts, strapless shirts or ones with straps less than three fingers wide,
attire with lewd/indecent/vulgar messages, head covering of any kind,
see-through clothing, and attire that exposes cleavage. The “no head gear rule” applies to all
indoor activities during all hours.
11) Dances: Leesville Road High School prohibits students who
have been suspended from school during the school year from attending any
dances, including the prom, during the same year. Please be aware of this policy.
12)
Drop/Add Days: Drop/add days are scheduled
for August 3 and August 9. (Please note
that the second drop/add day has been changed from August 10, as originally
announced, to August 9 due to a calendar issue.) The time periods for this event will be 8:00-11:00 a.m. and
2:00-4:00 p.m. on both days. Students
with schedule issues in need of attention on these days should report to the
Student Services Department. Please
note that the drop/add days have been planned to address the following issues
with student schedules: incomplete
schedules, enrollment in the wrong level of a course, absence of a course
needed for graduation, presence of a course on schedule that has already been
passed, and courses in the incorrect sequence.
13)
PTSA Restaurant Nights: The PTSA will sponsor
“Restaurant Nights” on September 19, October 17, November 14, January 18,
February 15, March 20, and May 15 at various restaurants throughout the
community. A percentage of the profits
earned by the restaurants on these nights will be given to the PTSA. All students and parents are encouraged to
support the PTSA on these nights. More
information regarding the location of these events will be announced at a later
date.
Our staff is very excited about the return of the
student body to campus on August 25.
Through the combined efforts of our students, parents, and staff
members, all members of our school community will experience a very positive
2006-2007 school year. I hope you enjoy
the final days of your summer.
Respectfully,
Stephen Gainey
Principal
