Avenues of support, both for the user and the support professional.
UNC Sources
There are three main support groups for the UNC campus (lots of smaller ones, too). Be aware that the quality of Macintosh support varies widely even within one of these groups, you may need to be persistant to get the help you need.
- ITS provides a number of resources providing technical information on a wide variety of topics, including MacOS issues. Although they've lost a lot of their Mac support staff, they still maintain a contract for Apple's Support Pro 501 program. This gives them access to technical information, and they can escalate questions via email to Apple's Technical Staff. Please note that this service is Apple oriented, and they do not support third party products. If you handle a lot of Macs, you can buy a client license as part of this program, contact the ITRC for details.
- OIS (MedSchool, SOMIN)
- OASIS, the Office of Arts and Sciences Information Services helps support departments in Arts and Sciences.
Apple Sources
Obviously, Apple maintains a number of sites of interest:
- Apple's support center is a good place to start. Also see their Discussion forums.
- Apple also maintains a list of lists to keep you up to speed on hot topics.
