February 25, 2012 -- Genealogy Workshop: Discover Your Civil War Ancestor -- 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. 2012 marks the second  in a five-year commemoration of the American Civil War (1861-1865).  Join us for a workshop kicking off Duke Homestead's 2012 commemorative events!  Free.

 

March 17, 2012 -- Lecture: History Bites -- 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Join us for a lecture on historic cookery!  Free.

 

April 28, 2012 -- Community Yard and Craft Sale -- 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Buy and sell secondhand items at our Spring community yard sale.  Sellers must register (call 919-477-5498 or use this form) and bring their own table for displaying goods.

 

May 3, 2012 -- Tobacco Planting Day -- 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Come learn how to transplant tobacco seedlings and help the site start its yearly tobacco field. Free.

 

June 9, 2012 -- Herb, Garden, and Craft Festival -- 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Enjoy a wide variety of herb and craft vendors, 19th century games for children, traditional herbal use displays, and refreshments. Attend afternoon entertainment, craft demonstrations and more! Vendors must register using this formFree.

 

July 14, 2012 -- Pork, Pickles, and Peanuts: Tastes of North Carolina -- 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Food and art are the themes of the day! This festival will include a barbecue cook-off and juried competition for homemade pies.  Throughout the day, visitors can enjoy historical cooking demonstrations as well as art and craft vendors throughout the site!  Vendors must register using this form.  Pie contest participants must register using this form.  Barbecue chefs may call 919-477-5498 for more information.  Free.

 

July 28, 2012 -- Lecture: Slaves and Soldiers -- 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. 2012 marks the second in a five-year commemoration of the American Civil War (1861-1865).  Join us for a lecture!  Free.

 

August 11, 2012 -- Summer Children's Festival -- 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.   Enjoy music, dancing, storytelling, and games!  Fun for the whole family.  Vendors must register using this formFree.

 

September 8, 2012 -- Harvest and Hornworm Festival -- 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Browse local artists' wares all day. In the morning, see costumed interpreters demonstration tobacco harvesting, stringing and curing. In the afternoon, hear the sounds of the only tobacco auction left in Durham. Throughout the day, enjoy the hornworm race, MoonPie eating contest, musical entertainment, refreshments and much more!  Vendors must register using this formFree.

 

December 7 & 14, 2012 -- Christmas by Candlelight -- 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Celebrate an 1870 Christmas during evening tours of the Homestead. The tour features period decorations, caroling, hot apple cider and other goodies! Free.
