The Oleander was built 1980 as the Pride of Free Enterprise for Townsend Thoresen's Dover-Calais route. In 1988, after the formation of P&O European Ferries, the ferry was renamed Pride of Bruges. She was renamed again in 1999 and became P&OSL Picardy. After a lengthy period of lay-up in Dunkirk, the ship was sold of to Transeurope Shipping Lines, operators of the Ramsgate-Ostend route. The Picardy became Oleander under her new owners.
