In preparing for a Dark Ages chronicle, I realized that I knew very little about the Dark Ages themselves. While Kat may be our resident costume and culture goddess, she wasn't the StoryTeller, and I wasn't going to put her in the position of trying to tutor me just so I could pick her brain. Thus, I went in search of information of value. Some turned out to be better than others, of course. In the end, a month before the game started, I told my players what was required reading, and then I told them what was encouraged. In the meantime, I hit the books myself, and spent more than a few hours sitting infront of a television or listening to some music to get a feel for the era involved. Since there's such a dearth of information out there, as far as I could tell, I wanted to include it all here.

Films

Any of these should be available at any good video rental outlet in your area. When I say "good," though, I do mean something other than Blockbuster. For more information on any of these, see the Internet Movie Database. No, these aren't all necessarily great works of art, historically accurate, or particularly un-cliche. I liked them, and they gave me some ideas.

Music

Included below are some of the CD's I'm considering using for the chronicle's soundtrack. More information on any of these can be found on CDnow.com. No, they're not all medieval-era music. Funny, that.
