Preparing for a Chronicle set in the 1940's was significantly easier than one set in the Dark Ages. I grew up hearing my mother talk about the '50s and my grandmother talk about the '30s and '40s. However, that doesn't mean it was a breeze. I'm a believer in the little details really making the overall picture. Life in the '40s was different from now in major, major ways -- but much of it was the same. Fashion hasn't really changed that much in 90 or 100 years, really, especially for men. However, hot topics of the day, the names of countries, world leaders, and current stars -- these were all utterly different, and when tossed into a casual conversation roleplayed between characters, immediately homes you back in on the fact that, although the difference in years is 50 rather than 900, the fact is that it's still a historical game-setting. Resources I used for that sort of "flavor-text," as well as music for getting everyone into the them of this chronicle (powerlessness, confusion, terror brought on by being in danger when you believed you were impervious, etc.) are included here.

Films

Any of these should be available at any good video rental outlet in your area. When I say "good," though, I do mean something other than Blockbuster. For more information on any of these, see the Internet Movie Database. No, these aren't all necessarily great works of art, historically accurate, or particularly un-cliche. I liked them, and they gave me some ideas.

Music

Included below are some of the CD's I'm considering using for the chronicle's soundtrack. More information on any of these can be found on CDnow.com.
