Abstract: A descriptive correlational study was conducted to determine if a significant relationship existed between the perception of the patterns and relationships in a complex nursing situation presented on video-tape and the intuition score on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. The sample consisted of 30 nurses enrolled in a master's level nursing class. Subjects viewed a three minute scenario of a patient experiencing hypoglycemic shock. Subjects were asked to make a diagnosis and list cues supporting the diagnosis. Subjects then took the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. The hypothesis tested was that there would be an inverse relationship between the intuition score of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator and the number of cues needed to arrive at an accurate diagnosis of a patient problem. The correlation coefficient of the intuition scores and the perceptual accuracy scores was not significant for alpha .05. |
