Title: Sounds in NEP
Post by: rodion on January 25, 2005, 08:12:40 PM
Ok hopefully you are familiar with NEP's "kludge" system of swapping the lunar landing sounds (via batch file) so that say, an Apollo 15 mission will produce radio messages from Scott and Irwin. My question is, do you think it's a good idea to retain this mission-specific uniqueness and if its possible to do the swapping via a *.dll/vessel-based swap or something? Because if this is ok, I will start working on enhancing the sounds/radio chatter per Apollo mission. Yes, some sounds are a bit scratchy and "static-rich" but I can't do anything about those because historically some landing transmissions were garbled (i.e. Apollo 11 and 16), but will try my best to clean them up soon.

There's no reason why they can't be handled like the other mission-specific sound files: just put them in the appropriate mission directory below the NASSP sound directory and have the code look in there first before loading the default. It will take a small amount of coding, but it's no big deal.

Thanks movieman! I'll be editing/enhancing the sounds as soon as I can.

Ok, looks like you're only updating two sound files in each mission (there are three installed on my PC, but LRover.wav appears to always be the same file). So it wil be a two-line change to load them from the mission directory rather than the main directory if the NEP files are put in the mission directories.

Just need the LEM source files in CVS first so I can edit them without getting out of sync :).
