Title: Master Alarm Sound
Post by: Bunyap on January 29, 2010, 07:04:42 PM
This is one of a few "odds and ends" I have going.  The attached sound file should be pretty close to the CSM master alarm tone (alternating 750 htz / 2000 htz).

If you would like to check it out replace the "alarm.wav" file in Sound/Project Apollo with the attached file.

Hi,
Where did you find the specs for that alarm tone? Sounds more like the Shuttles Class 3 SM alert...

Yeah, it definitely sounds familiar.  I have been going through whatever onboard recordings I can find to try to pick it out and confirm its the right tone...

The spec is from the AOH Caution and Warning section:  "The output signal from the tone generator is a square wave that is alternately 750 cps and 2000 cps, changing at a rate of 2.5 times a second".

Great, thanks for pointing that out, I never realized that the Master Alarm sound was wrong!  :ThumbsUp432:

Change is in CVS, a code change was necessary, too, as the old code was switching the sound on and off and the new sound is a loop. So you need to wait for new beta modules or, after a CVS update of the Orbitersdk and Sound folders, you need to recompile the modules or the new alarm will sound a little bit strange.

Now I really need to get used to the new sound after 5 years training with the wrong one...

Cheers
Tschachim

This is almost one change I wish we could have as 'optional'  The new sound may be accurate, but its rather more annoying than its inaccurate counterpart (hard to believe, I know). :)   Also, I think the old sound came from the movie Apollo 13, so some people may associate with it easier.
