Dead only because NASA wants to spend a lot more. The program could easily be revived by NASA, or a private agency.

It really needs to be revived... I'll follow suit with Heinlein and say that space exploration really is our future.


Still, people are talking about it. The main buzz surrounds the Mars Rover, but the point is that it is on the mind of constituents. Now, we just need to convince government that we care.
