Yes, but the Z-axis is not where you think it is.
My joystick has a Z-axis too, but it's implemented as Rotator #2.
I have to specify RRT 2 in the configuration for it to work. Another joystick I tested had the Z-axis implemented on a slider.
The DirectX joystick interface has support for something like 10 different axes of different types, 128 buttons, and all sorts of wierd gadgets. Each joystick uses a slightly different interface outside of the normal X and Y movement. Only X and Y are a standard, the Z is moved around according to the manufacturer's whim.
