virtual cockpit

The next version of project mercury definitely needs a virtual cockpit, one similar to the delta gliders v-cockpit with useable virtual switches and stuff, so here is my idea. Basically just a v-cockpit with workable switches, lights, knobs, just a virtually panel with lights. Also the front view window (except on friendship 7), and also in the delta glider v-cockpit you can see your guys arms and legs and even if you look behind him his really messed up head, but you could do that for the next project mercury, and one last thing could be like in the beta of project Apollo, where you can have diffrent view cameras in virtual cockpit, maybe you could have them for staging, and just view the astronaut, and also in regular camera view (global frame) you could see the astronaut in the front window and also see the periscope.
Thanks guys!

Everyone loves eye-candy.....speaking of which....where's that "illegal" video of the Apollo capsule at?
After all, we got sent to NASA jail for it.

My Project Apollo Work:
CM Visual
-VC (~75% complete: texture work beginning again; mesh-78%; texture-70%)
Propulsion Particle Improvements (Focused on S1B right now, BETA 1.0 has been commited)
New Docking Method (~50% complete: research complete; coding partially completed, testing not underway)
Future Work: (if it's here, it's deemed unnecessary to upcoming release)
Older Work: (if it's here, it's fair game to whoever wants to improve)
EMS Implementation (committed: minor flaws, but groundwork is there, needs extensive testing)
EMS scrolls (committed: not refined, but usable)
SM Visual (committed: mesh-finished, texture-60%; possibly revisited in future)
J2 Texture (commited: room for improvement)
LRV (committed: mesh-finished, texture-90%; in future a ground up rebuild may be in order, but not on my plans)

It would be a good project, but Its got so much vested in the main panel that Id rather see tweaks to it.
For instance, one thing is Gordon Coopers panel, with no periscope but an attitude reticule sight in the window.
Another is to have all the navigational aids functional in the periscope.
Those kinda things that really help making the flying more realistic would be more interesting to me but thats just my 2 cents.
Ill never argue against eye candy if Rob feels like it

Things like the periscope will be hard to do right in a virtual cockpit if it can be done at all. I rather focus on getting the 2d panel right and doing the detail work for the individual capsules

Ok I know nothing has been done here for a long long time, and I know people have been waiting for this for AGES!
Anyways, for the last few months I've been making some slow but steady progress on this project. Specifically the modeling for the cockpit controls.
But I seem to have run up against a wall. Just when I get going!
I posted this to the Yahoo Groups Space-Modelers as well, trying to get some referance material:
Mercury Cockpit Referance Photos
I'm working on a 3D model of the historical Mercury Cockpit for the Orbiter Space Flight Simulator. I have a great deal of research material and referance data on this, and I know what instruments are in what locations for each of the different missions. However, what I'm lacking is photographic referance material for each of the mission control panels for each of the flights.
Can anybody point me in the right direction or get me some contact information, or anything where I can find the photos for the cockpits of Freedom 7, Friendship 7, Sigma 7, Aurora 7, Liberty Bell 7?
Here is some pics of my progress so far: (Enjoy!)
