Haunted House

In October our class built a haunted house using Lego blocks. We began by getting into cooperative groups and discussing the project. The groups used a planning sheet to make a list of scary things they wanted to include in the project and to make an initial sketch of the idea they chose to work on.

One group of children designed and built the perimeter of the house using Duplo blocks, leaving a space for a door and several windows. After the house was built, other groups designed a front door, coffin, trunk, and closet door that opened. Using one motor, three micromotors, and the control panel, they designed a werewolf that wagged his tail, a witch that stirred her brew, a ghost that drifted across the floor, and a monster that ran from behind the house to scare you on your way out!

The haunted house was an exciting project and a great learning experience for everyone!

While working on the project, we explored the haunted house theme in our language arts program by studying, writing reports, and creating paper bag owls and writing stories about Q-tip skeletons, as well as our haunted house !
