In order to use a laptop on the UNC campus wireless network you must register the hardware address of your wireless card in advance. This address, also called the MAC address, and, on Macintosh computers, the Airport id, is 6 hexadecimal numbers. There are several ways you can find this address. On a PC, go to a command prompt (in XP, go to the Start menu and run "cmd.") and enter the command "ipconfig /all". This will display information for all network adapters in your computer. Find your wireless adapter and record the address. On a Mac, go to System Preferences/Network. Select "Airport" on the left, and click on "Advanced" on the right. The Airport id will be at the bottom of the Advanced screen. Email this address to ncsma@unc.edu with the subject line, "Laptop Registration."
