I've included this picture to demonstrate proper attire for panning. This person wears a hat to cover his head and neck from sunburn. He also wears an long sleeve shirt, easy to roll down when you're done panning to keep warm. Waders are extremely important to keeping warm in cool water and from getting wet. If you get the chance to wear waders when you're panning for gold, do it and be happy. This gold panner also wears river shoes to keep from stepping on something that could potentially go through his foot and to keep from falling on slippery rocks.
